In a year of expected volatility as a result of the introduction of new GCSE courses and grading, we are
delighted to congratulate pupils and staff of Hagley Catholic High School who, once again, have met
expectations by achieving some fantastic GCSE results!

We are confident that pupils have made expected progress in line with the Government’s new Key
Performance Indicators. We are delighted that 82% of pupils have achieved grades 9 -4 in an English
Language (88% in English Literature) and an impressive 85% have secured the same standard in
mathematics.

Whilst the new key performance indicators make clear comparisons with previous years very difficult, it
can be identified that 80% of the students secured the equivalent of 5 standard passes (Grades A*-C). It is
very encouraging to report that over a quarter of the entries secured the top grades (A*/A or 9 to 7 for the
new courses).

The vast majority of our pupils secured 9 or 10 GCSEs with good grades, in both core and option subjects,
demonstrating the school’s commitment to delivering a broad and balanced curriculum to all students.

Headteacher, Ted Hammond, says of the results “These results, once again, reflect the hard work and
dedication of both staff and students, which will allow our pupils to progress onto positive and appropriate
post-16 pathways.”

Published on the school website is an article by SSAT explaining the new GCSE examinations and grading
system.

Please see the attached for a summary of the results, as well as guide for parents and carers about the new GCSEs for English language, English literature, and maths
