Music Extra Curricular Activities

We have a wide range of musical activities that run every week. We encourage all year groups and all abilities to get involved. These activities develop new skills that enhance and support instrumental lessons and our curriculum. Joining a musical activity is a fantastic way to feel part of a team, be creative, meet new friends and have fun!

There are regular concerts, gigs at local venues as well as the Pyramid concert and the primary tours.

Music is a strength of our school and we provide many opportunities for our pupils and support them in developing their musical abilities and talents. Below is information regarding instrument lessons at Hagley for 2017, that we hope you will find useful.

The cost for instrumental Lessons from September 2018 per term are:
Group Size
Lesson Duration
Fees Per Term
Instruments Offered
30 minutes
20 minutes
30 minutes

Please note group lessons can only be an option if there are other students learning the same instrument and at a similar standard.  If this is not the case, your child will be required to have a 20-minute individual at a cost of a £146 per term.  Percussion and Brass instrument require an individual lesson.

If a teacher is absent, this is made up on at alternative date. If this is not possible, a reduction on your next invoice will be made. Reimbursement will not be made for missed lessons due to childs illness, absence or forgetfulness.

If you wish your child  to start instrumental lessons with us in September, please pay through ParentPay which is accessible on our school website and write in the notes field what instrument your child plays, what grade they are and what lesson they require - 30 minute group, 20 or 30 minute individual . Any concerns or issues please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Hire cost of woodwind, brass and string instruments are £32 per term available to hire from Worcestershire Youth Music.  Either order on line at or phone 01905 425611.
Lessons are paid for a term in advance. You will receive an email near the end of each term to remind you that payment is due for next terms lessons. It is essential that lessons are paid for by the payment date given on the email, as we have to request teaching time from Worcestershire Music. Payment for lessons must be paid for through ParentPay, which is located on our school website. If you do not wish your child to continue with their music lessons in school, a terms notice is required as the school is charged by Worcester Music a term in advance.

Privately owned instruments must be covered by your own insurance policy no responsibility can be taken for instruments damaged, lost or mislaid on school premises.

Music Tuition Agreement

Playing music in an ensemble is an essential and invaluable part of learning to play an instrument. It reinforces and builds upon what has been taught in lessons as well as offering students exciting opportunities to perform and develop team building skills. Invariably, students who regularly attend a musical ensemble make quicker progress than students who do not. Given the financial cost of the school lessons to yourselves and the fact that students often have to miss curriculum time in order to attend the lessons, our aim is to maximise the benefit of the lessons by insisting that each student attends an ensemble rehearsal each week.

Each student is required to enter an agreement with the school to show, they will make full use of the performing opportunities offered by regularly attending at least one of the school ensembles. We withhold the right to withdraw lessons at the end of a term should attendance of an ensemble fall below an acceptable level. If circumstances necessitate missing the odd rehearsal, please send in a note so that we are aware of any unavoidable situations. If transport is difficult, it may be possible to share lifts with another student travelling in the same direction. We look forward to a productive and musical year and to meeting you in the autumn term.
