The A-Level course will be taught predominantly in the target language and students are encourage to express their ideas on a variety of topics. It is expected that students will develop their vocabulary through additional reading and all students will have regular opportunities to develop in confidence and fluency with the support of class teachers.


The A Level Course will be taught as follows;


Year 12

Year 13

•       Induction stage;

•       Language “themes” 1+2;

•       Film studies;

•       Mini-IRPs;

•       End of Year 12 “mocks”.

•       Language “themes” 3+4;

•       Literature studies;

•       Film revisions

•       IRP preparaton;

•       Final exams in summer.


Over the two-year course, students will be taught the following themes;


1. Les changements dans la société française

- set in the context of France only

- covering social issues and trends


2. La culture politique et artistique dans les pays francophones

- set in the context of francophone countries and communities

- includes looking at artistic culture (music, festivals and traditions) and political and artistic culture (through media)


3. L’immigration et la société multiculturelle française

- set in the context of France only

- covering social issues and trends


4. L’Occupation et la Résistance

- set in the context of France only

- covering political culture

Assessments will be conducted at the end of the two-year course as follows ;


Paper 1: Listening Reading and Translation (40%)

- content based on the four themes


Paper 2: Written Response to Works and Translation (30%)

- based on the literary text and the film


Paper 3: Speaking (30%)

(internally conducted and externally assessed)

21-23 minutes, which includes 5 minutes of formal preparation time

- task 1 is based on vocabulary and structures covered in the four themes

- task 2 is based on independent research areas selected by the student relating to one of the four themes
